James Matthews
James Matthews didn't start in a boardroom. He started on a building site, tools in hand, learning the trade from the ground up as an apprentice carpenter. That's where the foundation was laid. Not just in timber and concrete, but in understanding how projects actually come together — and how quickly they can fall apart when the right oversight isn't in place.
Over 16 years, James was promoted through every level of the industry. Apprentice. Carpenter. Site Supervisor. Foreman. Site Manager. Project Manager. Operations. Each role gave him a different seat at the table, and a deeper understanding of what every stakeholder needs, worries about, and too often doesn't say out loud. He earned multiple diplomas in Building & Construction. Completed his workplace health & safety certifications. And in 2026, he finished his MBA, adding commercial insights to decades of hands-on knowledge. But qualifications only tell part of the story.
What shaped James most was seeing the same problems repeat across projects - developers overexposed to risk because no one was asking the hard questions. Builders under pressure with no one in their corner. Contracts signed without the right scrutiny. Claims paid without proper inspection. Good projects let down by poor process.
In 2024, he stepped out on his own and founded Building & Construction Advisory. Not to build another large consultancy. Not to compete with the global firms. But to offer something they can't - genuine independence, ground-up trade knowledge, and the kind of honest, direct guidance that only comes from someone who has stood in every pair of boots on a project site.
James is calm under pressure. He listens before he speaks. He'll speak up when something isn't right. And if you get him talking about the craft of construction, you'll see the same passion that put him on a building site all those years ago.
